Neighborhood of Care

Project

How can ‘care’ in a wider perspective be used as a tool to rethink what is considered valuable in urban planning?

This project explores the societal and spatial implications of reprogramming vacant hospitals in Denmark into neighborhoods of care. The project will contribute to expanding the perception of care to not only concern health care, but also care for the climate, for the limited resources, and for the marginalized groups of society that are often left out of modern city planning.

This project is developing a strategy for the 19 hospitals that will become vacant because of the development of the new Super Hospitals. Aalborg North Hospital is used as a case example, to demonstrate how to create a Neighborhood of Care with a focus on housing functions that sustains different types of living for different user groups in need of care.
