A waiting area with soothing lighting.

The charming exterior of Gentofte Hospital encourages exudes relaxation and healing — until the moment you enter the waiting area of the Breast Surgery Department. You encounter a grim environment with white, expressionless walls and a small, unwelcoming waiting room.

Using a spatial light installation, the project sets out to change the ambience of the waiting area. Light and colours will have a soothing, distracting effect on patients and relatives, while also creating a pleasant working environment for the department’s staff. A curved screen disperses colours onto the ceiling and wall, creating a colour sensation that covers the entire room. The light comes together in the centre of the waiting area in the shape of an illuminated sculpture, intended to serve as an enclosure, a hub and a potential distraction from the difficult situation of patients and their relatives.
