Predictive Response

What are the barriers for designing, fabricating, and assembling a bio-based architecture?

At the exhibition '70 % Less CO2' you can explore the project 'Predictive Response'.

The project investigates the integration of bio-based materials into architectural construction. Bio-based materials promise the potential of a new regime in our material practices, moving us from the increasing limited resources of the geosphere to the abundancy of the biosphere.

Predictive Response examines the robotically steered 3D printing of cellulose reinforced bio-polymers as building components. Bio-polymers are highly transformational; where wet setting states are highly pliable and thixotropic, dry states are structurally rigid. Predictive Response develops new methods for using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to predict the geometric transformation, behaviour, and performance of bio-based materials.

The demonstrator constructs a wall structure constructed over the time of the exhibition. Across four research phases the installation will build up the full architectural proposition.
