Gilleleje Museum presents the local history of Gilleleje. A unique story makes the city famous, the rescue operation of Danish Jews in October 1943. The project investigates the sense of place, characteristic atmospheres and how history can be experienced through architecture. A new urban space is created and transformation and addition to the existing creating a complete museum experience.

The exhibition consists of three elements: A bench, an original dinghy, and a view of the Gilleleje Church and cemetery, both playing a significant role in the history of the rescue operation of Danish Jews. The room is illuminated only by a small gap, creating an evocative atmosphere inviting the visitors to take part and revisit the historical events.
Visualization: Facade inspired by the local cultural heritage
Model 1:20 and 1:200
The museum consists of five buildings today: Two buildings worthy of preservation (Østergade 20 and Gilleleje Hovedgade 49), a small oldcottage, a warehouse, and an exhibition building.
The project transforms the existing exhibition and warehouse building. The two buildings worthy of preservation will be restored, of which Østergade 20 will be transformed into a cafe, ticket sales, shop and staff facilities
