“Greetings From” is a book about Large Letters, iconic 20th century American travel postcards. The printed publication acts as a visual compendium of the cards themselves, and as a resource unveiling a unique creative process developed during the early years of colour printing technology.

All the Large Letters contained in the book were published by Curt Teich & Co., the most prolific American postcard publisher of its time. From depicting large cities to small towns, the company created a unique record of the U.S.A. beginning in the early 1930s and spanning nearly four decades.

Curt Teich’s staff documented every step of the process behind its cards. All of this material was preserved and now makes up the Curt Teich Postcard Archive Collection which has since 2015 been housed by the Newberry Library in Chicago.

Visiting the Newberry allowed access to an astounding amount of source material; the archival research provided the grounds for an analytical enquiry into the cards, better understanding how they were designed and produced.

These remarkable cards were developed in tandem with a revolution in colour printing and just as graphic design was becoming a recognised trade; they act as the perfect catalyst for exploring a distinctive moment in the history of visual communication.
