Energy Islands as a Hybrid Landscape

Imagine a climate-friendly power production that exploits our natural resources while recreating them. 

At the exhibition '70 % Less CO2' you can explore the project 'Energy Islands as a Hybrid Landscape'.

The 2020 Climate Act describes the expansion of power production and infrastructure systems that exploit the potential of offshore wind  by establishing ‘Energy Islands’. These artificial industrial landscapes are deployed at the expense of the biodiversity in the surrounding eco-systems: they generate green energy while destroying natural environments.

This project recognises the plants of the ‘Green Transition’ as landscapes, based on Bornholm as an Energy Island in the Baltic Sea. By investigating the biophysical situation of the Baltic Sea and studying the natural dynamics of the Bornholm coast, a technical plant emerges as a ‘hybrid’ landscape to enhance the physical properties of the environment.

Like a canvas, the convex tectonic skin lets the natural dynamics paint an ongoing process of forest growth creating both habitat and recreation.
