A Danish Institute in Istanbul
In Istanbul, in the heart of the old European district, is located a building site that previously housed an active Danish embassy, which had a critical role in initiating the first Danish links to the Arab world. Today’s circumstances have engendered the potential of re-establishing this important cultural bridge.
The project aims to find a sustainable building method by integrating a deeper understanding of the local environment, both culturally and climatically.
Designing a Danish Institute in Istanbul creates a unique framework for debating the relationship between the local and global, guest and host, as well as generating a special opportunity for exploring architectural identity.
