The School of Performing Arts is located in the field of tension between city and home in a private backyard at Frederiksberg. Surrounded by block of flats, the school reveals itself through narrow passages towards the city. The project deals with a transformation of three historicist school buildings, which in their structure and homogeneous organization, have undergone changes to meet the needs of the new performing arts school.

We believe that transformation of buildings and urban spaces can witness and stage, the previously lived life. In our project, we have developed four design principles that are based on Ellen Braae's transformation paradigms. The design principles are developed to support the reminiscent and stories the old school buildings contain.

The new windows testify that something new has happened in the buildings, but not exactly what
The old windows are dazzled and colored to stage the system of the previous windows
The new elements in the facade stand in great contrast to the existing. They amplify each other's time
the theater hall is honest that it is a new element- both in terms of design and in material.
The existing buildings have had existing decks removed, we have added mezzanines designed as galleries.
The mezzanins aim to tell about the previous movement in the buildings and can be used for teaching purposes

The mezzanine in the painting room. the mezzanine rests on the existing iron girders and keeps distance to the existing walls
The Drama hall. Here you see the space, it is possible to pass behind curtains when the space is in use.
It has been important for us to give the theater hall a kinship to the new elements of the existing buildings.
The theater tower lights up when there are performances, and invites the city in.
