A Ceramic Chair

There are things here in life that we do not always give enough credit and things we might give too  Much. Like what it means to be able to touch something or what it means to us when we can't or don't dare.

In this work the focus is to explore the interfaces between the familiar of the functional and the unfamiliar of the sculptural. It is in this intertwinement of the two understandings of object qualities that we might find ourselves experiencing material qualities in a new way - in this case a ceramic chair. An object of function, that we by the familiarity of this object, knows to be one we can get close to, touch, and use as a rest for our body. An objects that in this case is made in ceramic, a material we maybe not often see used for this kind of object, making us ask us selves what this object is, and how we should act accordingly. A Ceramic Chair is made with the aim of opening the discussion of how we approach different materials depending on the scenario we have placed it in, and how that can change the way we experience the object and the material.

Statement

In the art of creating; materials and work methods are my partners in crime and craftmanship. To me the materials and the chosen work method are equally as big a participant in the performance of creating and object. Each equally as important as me the maker. It is about understanding and appreciating what is out of your hands, and what you as a maker are given through the material and the way you choose to work. If either are changed, the outcome will change. The two controle the premis for you work and alters what is possible and how. It is in this lose of control over your material that that their will thing to gain. Each material holds abilities, qualities, possibilities. Choosing how to use and unfold these qualities is where the maker comes into play.
