Harvesting Brine – Towards a New Industriality
How can the water and brine industries become more efficient ecosystems – and more attractive fertile landscapes?
At the exhibition '70 % Less CO2' you can explore the project 'Harvesting Brine – Towards a New Industriality'.
The project is developed in the Akhfennir area of Morocco, near a mining industry that heavily extracts salt and lithium from desert ponds. This process wastes most of the water in an area where water – and thus vegetation – are scarce.
It develops a system to capture the water and, on that basis, suggests how to grow plants and vegetables to create a more sustainable environment. The system consists of a dome that captures the evaporated water and then guides the flow of water into planted areas, each shaded differently to accommodate the various types of vegetation.
The project was developed for both Chile and Morocco, yet it is viable in hundreds of sites around the world.
