In the smaller living space, the dining table is the setting for a multitude of functions - both social, practical and aesthetic. Based on preliminary research regarding the domestic workplace this project explores the all-important dining table as the “central versatile surface” in smaller living spaces and aspires to meet needs like adaptability, storage, sustainability and modern craftsmanship.

The central table has many purposes in a smaller living space. Shown here are a few of the functions described by interviewees during the projects initial research.

Underneath the tabletop you'll find a storage space and an extra leaf to extend the table.
The tabletop slides to the side to reveal the storage space and uses a tongue and groove mechanism to function.

To expand the table you slide out the extra leaf from underneath the tabletop. Then you easily slide the tabletop (even with objects) to make room for the extra leaf at the end of the table.

The table can be taken apart, so it is easier to transport from the manufacturer to the retail place to the home and from home to new home. The table can be sorted by materials when it is time to dispose of it.
