Developing Stejlepladsen
”Developing Stejlepladsen” challenges the existing urban planning strategies in the current development plan of Stejlepladsen. The project criticises the use of ”tabula rasa” and demolishing strategies and instead focuses on designing alternative methods that fronts sustainable solutions, mixed functions and a diverse neighbourhood.
The project "Developing Stejlepladsen" is investigating an alternative way to plan, based on a "slow grow" strategy that is rooted in local communities, valuable natural and cultural areas and building typologies.
It is a strategy that doesn't take a starting point in demolition, but instead stumulates urban re-use and informal self built practices. Stejlepladsen is one of few sites left in Copenhagen with informal architecture and crooked social spaces, where the residents have the possibility to design and control their own homes and shape thier direct surroundings, in close proximity to nature, industry and the water.
Instead of demolishing and only building new, this project and urban plan aims to find and keep qualities, such as the atmosphere of "self built", and to provide an extension of a diverse neighborhood that celebrates friction.
