What If Valby Was a Forest?

What if Denmark gained a reputation as a country where wildlife grows symbiotically with its cities?

At the exhibition '70 % Less CO2' you can explore the project 'What If Valby Was a Forest?'.

Traffic and cars dominate cities which have a dearth of wooded green areas that can offset these carbon emissions and help balance the climate accounts.

This project addresses the idea of allowing nature to have a prominent role in cities instead of cars. Based on the area around the major intersection of Folehaven with Gammel Køge Landevej, the project outlines an urban renewal strategy that seeks to make the Valby district of Copenhagen both greener and more sustainable.

Routing a heavily trafficked street underground through a tunnel creates an open area at street level. The space will be planted with trees and converted into a recreational woodland area for the benefit of Valby residents and the environment.

Using radical, ambitious initiatives for a sustainable future, the project challenges traditional perceptions of cities, thereby stimulating debate and new perspectives.
