'Vertical Life' explores the issue of declining biodiversity.

Developing an initiative promoting urban biodiversity, inspiration was drawn from the immediate surroundings in Copenhagen. As space in our city is at a premium, the project looks at the “forgotten” elements that are everywhere: drainpipes.

By allowing residents to install green pockets and insect hotels on drainpipes, we get them to participate in a form of collective activism. An initiative like this can have benefits besides the obvious – greener, wilder cities. It can empower communities to gather round an issue that transcends politics: preserving the nature that surrounds and sustains us.

The pockets of green can be mounted by the user and provide an intuitive solution to encourage grassroots initiatives.
