Public Zoom webinar for architects, building industry actors and homeowners: 'A Renovation Wave for Denmark', a strategy to increase architect-led sustainable renovations of private residential properties in Denmark.

Sustainable renovations in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis

In October 2020, the European Commission launched 'A Renovation Wave for Europe', a financial strategy to increase sustainable renovations in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis. The strategy includes the New European Bauhaus (NEB) – an innovation-focused project to support initiatives addressing sustainability, quality of experience and inclusion.

Potential funding from NEB presents an opportunity for Denmark to perform a necessary overhaul of its private residential renovation industry. Studies of the renovated Danish building stock reveal that 60-80 per cent of renovations use incorrect methods and materials, causing billions of kroner in repairs costs for both owners and the state.

Currently, only 15 per cent of Danish homeowners consult architects and specialists such as energy consultants when doing maintenance or renovations on their home - but could architects be the answer to increasing renovation quality and sustainability?

Inspired by NEB’s three concepts 'A Renovation Wave For Denmark' exemplifies how architects can use a holistic sustainability certification as a design and communication tool in private residential renovations.
