CPH LR is a retake on the planned tram for Nørrebro-Gladsaxe in 2035. The project explores how to integrate the tram into the city. CPH LR seeks to enhance access for bicycles, multimodal travel, and first/last mile issues. CPH LR is a new spine for the district by using the tram to facilitate social experiences and give back to the area with fun aspects, community feeling, and car-less streets.

The light rail is designed for the local community, car-less streets, with enhanced access for bicycles and disabled. The rail can play an active role in the post-car-spaces by delivering shopping services, recreational areas, and a new landmark for the district.

The interior tries to offer something for everyone. A collective bench of flip up seats makes the entire train into a flex area where everyone can sit equal. Wide doors on one side makes it easy to hop on/off and maximizes standing area. The middle car is reconfigurable and can be used for carrying bikes or housing experiences in the city.

A rail will ensure the required capacity and shift the traffic from cars to public transportation, cycling, and walking. There is an opportunity to rethink the streets, as they will be remodeled through the light rail construction and reprogrammed to car-less streets. The light rail brings streets that are designed for the people who use them, pocket parks, and spots for experiences.
A tool for urban development

Designed for local small-scale production. Only a few “building blocks” are needed. Replacing expensive curved surfaces, molds, and the need for advanced foreign factories with an urban and architectural aesthetic that fits the mood of the district. Makes the train easier to prefabricate and upgrade in the future.

Local public transportation is part of the city. What if the train was a landmark and engaging social place?
A train can be more than a metal box rumbling through the city as quickly as possible.

The exterior shows a futuristic design. Something that is not outdated within 2035, yet not sci-fi. The exterior has a clean, architectural volume in a modular system. Referencing Nørrebro’s heritage of half timbering and the “everyday raw luxury”-materiality of Tingbjerg Culture House that we also know from B&O Play and DR Concert Hall.
