The decorative function

I worked on a room divider, inspired by traditional decoration and especially ornaments known from wallpaper and fabric. My focus has been on the transformation of two–dimensional ornaments into a three-dimensional form.

With the design of the individual ornaments into a room divider, I hope to give the viewer a visual experience that refers to a recognizable tradition with a modern expression.

The ornaments are cast in porcelain, with a blue transparent glaze that lies thicker in the narrow parts of the structure. I wanted the expression of the ceramic to have volume, but at the same time appear light and transparent, which allows communication through and around the room divider.
