Kiln casted recycled glass, ash, walnut

As a Finnish maker, I am deeply influenced by Nordic nature. Over
the past three years on Bornholm, I’ve been privileged to experience
the island’s transition from long, sunny summers to colorful
autumns, dark winters, and the reawakening of spring. I explore the
drastic seasonal changes and the emotions related to those
transitions. This is my ode to light and a celebration of the present
moment.

The work is also a material research project focused on circularsolutions in arts and crafts, utilizing waste glass from Bornholm-
based glass studio Baltic Sea Glass.

Nooa Hietaniemi (b. 1999) is a Finnish glass blower and designer currently located in Bornholm, Denmark. Working at the intersection of crafts, design, and art, he creates both sculptural and functional glassware and artwork. Beyond glass, Hietaniemi extends his work into other mediums, including sound and photography.

Hietaniemi believes in good design starting from understanding the material. He stays curious and keeps seeking new methods to push the boundaries of traditional craft techniques.

Hietaniemi trusts in the tradition of hand-making, considering it playing a key role in the modern world. In an era of consumerism and mass production, meaningful design and high-quality artisanship become radical acts.
