Because of its high CO₂ footprint and extremely short usable lifespan, packaging plastic is one of the world’s most problematic materials.
However, by leveraging its unique material properties, packaging plastic can be recycled into a cellular structure with high architectural potential, which could be used, among other things, as a building material. This form of recycling can extend the material’s useful life and thereby delay its fate of ending up in landfill, incineration, or as an indestructible remnant in nature.
