I am an architect and PhD student working within housing research at the intersection of social and environmental sustainability. My research explores how the transformation of the existing building stock can support more inclusive, resource-conscious, and socially sustainable housing. I am particularly interested in how the diverse needs of residents can shape future housing cultures.

I look at games as petri dishes to study human psychology, cognition, and social interaction. Amin is a researcher and educator specializing in digital timber construction, with a focus on circular timber systems, resource-driven predictive design, and adaptive robotic fabrication for timber systems. He is currently a doctoral fellow at CITA – Centre for Information Technology and Architecture at the Royal Danish Academy, within the RAW - EIC Pathfinder research project.

Anders Hermund is Associate Professor at the Royal Danish Academy. His research explores how artificial intelligence, spatial data, and immersive technologies are transforming architecture and its role in shaping future environments. Bridging computational methods, spatial perception, and artistic experimentation, his work develops new ways to model, experience, and imagine spatial futures.

My research explores design at the intersection of materiality and spatiality. I understand furniture and product design as material configurations, developed and perceived in relation to specific spatial contexts and making up spatial environments of their own. The experiential qualities of such spatial-material environments are at the core of my research.

In my research I explore the digital representation of lighting in architecture. My focus is on the aesthetic and qualitative experience of lighting.
I work with VR-based 360° photographs, Photogrammetry Scanning and Physical Based Rendering.

Anne Beim is professor of architecture and Head of CINARK – Center for Industrial Architecture. Beim studies ‘absolute sustainability’ of construction focusing on biogenic materials, construction and architectural quality. As a creator of theories in architectural tectonics and pioneer in the development of ecological architecture, she has won several awards and exhibited at the Venice Biennale.

With what materials do we build and unbuild architectural history in times of climate crisis? I am an architect, educator and writer who moved from practice to history-writing. From a feminist environmental perspective, I gather stories, materials and spatial practices from early twentieth-century Sweden to ask what they might teach us about living less extractively with the earth.

At the edges of regenerative design and the care-economy, I cultivate ways of designing for flourishing and leaving no one behind. My research explores collaborative design as a living, relational practice attuned to bio- and neurodiversity. By inviting all our ways of knowing into creative participation, these approaches aim at building a holistic understanding when navigating complexity

I am a Danish zoologist and researcher whose career has focused on marine reptiles, biodiversity, natural history, molecular science, forensic research, conservation, and natural heritage. Associated with the Royal Danish Academy, I have developed an interdisciplinary research profile, with particular expertise in sea snakes.

I'm a PhD Fellow at the Royal Danish Academy's Institute of Design, Product and Material. My thesis, titled 'Circularity in the Danish furniture industry', examines how industry actors engage with concepts from the circular economy, in light of EU regulations like the ESPR pushing the European market to have more circular products. I hold an MA in strategic design and a BA in furniture.

I am an architectural researcher and educator currently exploring the politics and materialities of maintenance. Informed by engagement with self-organized building projects, collective living, critical mapping, and collaborative pedagogy, my work explores how practices of care, upkeep, and collective management shape social and spatial environments over time.

Cecil specializes in the structure and mechanics of heritage collections or objects with a focus on paintings. To understand why and how objects degrade, she is measuring the long-term impact of materials, climate and conservation treatment. Cecil’s interdisciplinary approach bridges conservation and materials science and supports the development of effective strategies for safeguarding heritage.

Charlie Steenberg is a researcher affiliated with the Center for Sustainable Building Culture. Charlie focuses on low-density residential areas, with an emphasis on the preservation value and sustainability potential of the built heritage. Her Ph.D. dissertation, PARCEL - HUS - KVARTER, presents examples of mitigation strategies that can help us navigate a future within planetary boundaries.

I am an architectural researcher, designer and educator working at the intersection of architectural history, design pedagogy and human diversity. My PhD research focuses on the relationship between the human body and architectural and design education through the lens of critical disability studies. I am part of Centre for Spatial Inclusion at Institute of Architecture and Space.

Christoffer Harlang is an architect, designer and writer working as a professor Phd at the Royal Danish Academy where he teaches and researches at Cultural Heritage, Transformation and Conservation. He teaches at the master’s programme and his field is artistic research in architecture with attention towards how knowledge and sensitivity culture can inform contemporary architecture and design.

My research is about the political dimension of architecture. Based on the work of Hannah Arendt, I am developing a new theory of political architecture that deals with questions of authority, duration, partaking, action, reconciliation and thoughtlessness. This theory-building takes place in dialogue with various critical case studies and civil society collaborations.

Structural engineer educated at the University of Edinburgh. Holds an MEng (Hons) in Structural Engineering with Architecture (2005) and a Ph.D. (2011). Doctoral research examined construction methodology and structural behaviour of fabric-formed, form-efficient reinforced concrete beams, focusing on innovation and structural performance. Joined the Royal Danish Academy in 2010 and continuing.

David A. Garcia is a practising architect, educator, researcher and Associate Professor leading Master Program “Architecture and Extreme Environments”. His explorative artistic research is focused on extreme environments. Recipient of the three-year major grant from the Danish Arts Foundation and three time exhibitor at the Venice Biennale, among other international recognitions.

I am an architect and PhD student researching intersections between qualitative accounts of lived experience and computational design frameworks. In my PhD project, I examine whether and how incompatibility arises when text-based user narratives are employed within computer-aided design (CAD) applications - and how that may influence architectural design processes aiming to accommodate users.

My research examines the relationship between craft materiality and digital representation, exploring how experiential knowledge from ceramic practices can inform digital technologies. This practice-based work involves experimental 3D form-making through programming and digital fabrication tools such as robotics and clay 3D printing, emphasising material properties as key design drivers.

I'm a researcher focusing on ML as a modelling paradigm, and how it can change architectural practice. I work with architectural datasets and their applications for complex material behaviour, sustainability, performance and adaptive robotic fabrication systems.

Gengmu Ruan's research focuses on resource-informed timber structures and architecture, exploring how availability and inherent characteristics of wood resources can inform design and construction process. His work also looks at the dynamic relationship between resources, material properties, structural behaviour, construction method, tectonic expression and architectural phenomenon across scales.

I am an architect-turned-researcher, and my work grows out of a simple observation: urban projects rarely turn out as planned. I study how values, frameworks, and practices shape spatial decisions — from municipal-level architecture policy to the negotiation of heritage and sustainability in large-scale urban development. My research aims to speak to academia, practitioners, and policymakers.

I am an architect and my research focusses on strategic sustainable urban development. I currently lead the Master in Strategic Urban Planning. Current research projects include Risk-assessment of Vector-borne Diseases based on Deep Learning and Remote Sensing and AI Imaginaries, which investigates the use of generative AI to promote public participation in planning processes.

I am an industrial PhD researcher at the Royal Danish Academy and Designmuseum Danmark, working at the intersection of library and information science, media archaeology, and the organisation of art and design collections. Focusing on a historical image collection at the museum, I examine how such collections are structured and made accessible across historical and computational conditions.

My PhD project is informed by my research interests in historic homes and daylight in domestic interiors. At the intersection of these two interests, I focus on how darkness affects occupants' experience of privacy in historic homes through context-specific case studies.

Ida Engholm is Professor of Design History and Theory at the Royal Danish Academy. Her research explores the evolving role of design in societal and environmental transformation, with emphasis on the shift from human-centred to systemic and planetary perspectives, and how mindsets and methods from design can help imagine and shape alternative futures.

As a psychologist rooted in Behaviour Analysis, I study how to make learning efficient, inclusive, and respectful of individuality. I shape teaching and technology around the learner — not the other way around. I apply this to reading, education and healthcare technology, working with multidisciplinary teams of psychologists, educators, health-care providers, computer scientists and designers.

As a Professor of Architecture, Center leader and founder of CEMAS - Center for Material Studies, I am investigating the dynamics between humans, materials and environments.

Jacob Sebastian Bang is an architect MAA and associate professor at the Royal Danish Academy, Institute of Architecture and Space, where he teaches and researches. His field is artistic research in architecture: representation, concept development, design, working processes, and idea generation. He works with painting, drawing, graphics, and models, and lectures and exhibits internationally.

My research explores why and how we, as humans, design universes and fictional worlds and not least, how we use them to explore possible futures and tell deeper and more engaging stories.

I am a PhD researcher specialising in the conservation of archaeological material. I investigate how the material characteristics of waterlogged archaeological wood, such as degradation and species, and treatment methods influence conservation outcomes. My work uses advanced analytical methods, including vibrational spectroscopy (Raman), X‑ray imaging (micro‑CT), and mass spectrometry (LC‑MS).

I am a PhD-fellow working with the decay and preservation processes of archaeological horn and leather remains. My research focuses on the interaction between soil microorganisms and metal ions from associated corroding bronze objects in the burial environment. I use element analysis, micro cosms set ups and enzyme experiments to explore if these factors act as a catalyst or inhibitor.

I am an industrial researcher working at the intersection between the built environment and forestry. In my research, I aim to advance building and forestry practices that respect ecological boundaries.

Jesper Juul is an influential researcher in video games, design, and digital culture. Before coming to The Royal Danish Academy, he taught at ITU, MIT, and New York University. The author of five monographs for MIT Press, he also co-edits the MIT Press Playful Thinking series.
His interests include interaction and game design, the game industry, and the human experience of algorithms.

I am a PhD researcher in textiles and circularity. With and interdisciplinary approach, I examine how clothes are actually used in practice — how long we keep them and how often we wear them. My findings challenge core assumptions embedded in textile sustainability frameworks and EU policy, arguing for a more empirically grounded approach to measuring environmental impact.

I am a researcher dedicated to preserving our photographic heritage and making it accessible. My research brings together conservation, materials science and cultural heritage studies to understand how photographic materials age and change over time. I help develop strategies for their safe storage and exhibition so future generations can continue to experience and interpret these objects.

I am an architecture and urban studies researcher specializing in urban informality, with a focus on Eastern and Southern Africa. My work examines the built environment of informal settlements, including its spatial and material characteristics, the underlying sociocultural mechanisms that produce it, and its implications for human health and livelihood outcomes.

Visualisation is both the subject and method of my research. Situated within artistic research, my work spans the mapping and study of visualisation tools and practices, as well as critical cartography, data visualisation, and pictogram design. Through analysis and speculative design, I examine how graphic forms produce knowledge, mediate interpretation, and shape what is recognised or overlooked.

I work to improve the care and appreciation of wall paintings.

Since wall paintings are fundamentally connected to the structures on which they are painted, this means investigating problems from the micro scale to the building scale.

I combine site projects with fundamental laboratory studies to address the conservation of wall paintings in a trans-technological context.

My research examines the relationships and representation of light, colour, material, and form, and explores light as a narrative medium. It contributes to architectural lighting design methodologies, including representation techniques and digital and analogue models, addressing both real and imagined light in architectural environments and luminaire design.

I am an architect specializing in architectural lighting. My research examines how daylight and artificial light operate as spatial and compositional elements within the built environment. Focusing on light as both a natural force and a man-made technology, I explore how its variations, interrelations, and impact on sensory and spatial experience can be studied, established and conveyed.

Trained as a social anthropologist, my research explores the interconnections of social relations, cultural imaginaries, and space. Within this field of spatial anthropology, I conduct fieldwork in homes, interiors, cityscapes, neighborhoods, museums, welfare spaces, the periphery, and haunted houses. With a background in cognitive psychology, I study how the visual properties of information shape our way of processing. My work relies on psychophysics, quantitative experiments, and eye tracking. At the Centre for Visibility Design, my goal is to turn fundamental knowledge on visual processing into better design — helping people read both text and data visualisations more easily.

I study how our visual and cognitive systems work to make sense of written text, and how type design can support this. Using experimental methods, including eye-tracking, I test how typography, vision and language interact when legibility is pushed to the limit. In this, I examine individual differences in typeface processing, and how adapting type can help visually impaired readers navigate text.

I am a PhD student specialising in architectural paint research and historical painting techniques. My research employs archival investigations, on-site investigations (analytical imaging, stratigraphic exposures) and advanced analytical methods, including optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM-EDX) and FT-IR spectroscopy.

Lars Rolfsted Mortensen is an architect and assistant professor at the Royal Danish Academy, where he heads the MA programme Cultural Heritage, Transformation and Conservation. His research focuses on post-war infrastructural and industrial heritage. Photographic practice is central to his research, making unseen infrastructural landscapes visible for critical and aesthetic inquiry.

I am an architect and researcher curious about architecture as a way to understand and shape the world we live in. My research specialises in materials in architecture, circular economy, ecology and tectonics of disassembly as strategies for increasing sustainability in the built environment.

I am an architect, Associate Professor, and Head of the Cluster Light in Architecture and Design. My research and research-based teaching focus on the aesthetic qualities of daylight in architecture, exploring how daylight appears and shapes places, spaces, surfaces, and materials. I'm a game designer and researcher exploring how we can make interactive, virtual environments more inclusive. In my PhD, Queer Game Architecture, I build game prototypes that use large language models as co-creative partners — making games softer, unpredictable and more adaptive to the player sitting in front of the screen.

My PhD project explores how biobased building materials can be integrated more into today's construction through constructive preservation as a design strategy. Marcus Aminaka Wilmont's work merge a profound curiosity for the power of clothing and constructed identity with a fascination for artistic shape experimentation and responsible design theory. The majority of his practical and theoretical research projects focuses on artisanal pleating techniques as a design tool and a desire to create true value and longevity within fashion and clothing design.

I work with Comfort Design bringing together ethnographic, participatory and visual methods to develop knowledge and accessible tools for improving emotional wellbeing and human connection. I am also a curator and a student counselor (SPS)

My research explores how architecture can operate as cultural infrastructure, engaging questions of typology, inclusion, transformation and collective space. Moving between practice, pedagogy and theory, I investigate how drawing, design and spatial strategies can act as operative tools in times of environmental, social and political change.

As an architectural historian, I specialise in the relationship between buildings, ideas and cultural contexts. I study built and imaginary examples of modern and contemporary architecture, such as housing projects, churches and playgrounds. Theoretical and discursive work by architects interests me particularly and forms part of my explorations of the experience and meaning of architecture.

Masa is an architect, researcher, and educator whose work explores how disability, architecture and art intersect to shape inclusive and enjoyable everyday experiences. He is Associate Professor at the Institute of Architecture and Space, where he founded and leads the Centre for Spatial Inclusion (CSI), and co-leads the Master's Programme in Spatial Design.

I am a PhD candidate studying the design typologies and ideologies of Danish multi-storey housing. My work aims to bridge the gap between housing built in a contemporary market-driven context and the diverse human experiences of enjoyable housing. Since 2013, I have worked as an architect in London and Copenhagen and have taught at The Royal Danish Academy and the Kingston School of Art, London.

Mette Ramsgaard Thomsen is Professor of Architecture and Digital Technologies and Head of CITA at the Royal Danish Academy. Her research examines how computation and digital fabrication can enable new architectural practices, with a particular focus on bio based materials, sustainability and the relationship between material systems, buildings and their environments.

With a passion for the architecture of everyday life, Andersen researches how the built environment can respond to the demographic challenges of a world with a growing older population. As head of the Cluster for Architecture and Ageing, he works in cross-disciplinary collaborations to create new knowledge about meaningful lives and socially sustainable communities in ageing societies.

Associate professor at the Institute of Conservation, I am trained both as a heritage conservator and a microbiologist and molecular biologist. My multidisciplinary track record spans from heritage conservation to microbiology, phage biology and microbiome of soil, wastewater and animal gastrointestinal tract. I am studying how microorganisms interact with each other, with materials and with us.

I write, study, edit, and teach with a longstanding curiosity about how good and bad, right and wrong are defined in contemporary architecture. Moving between practice and research, I examine criteria for evaluation, unfolding power structures, and how the architectural canon re-emerges through the circulation of reference works across media platforms.

I am an architect and filmdirector. My research focusses on the 5 C´s: Co-creation, Collaboration, Care, Community and Context. I am currently working with the Roskilde Festival Station group, co-creating a temporary trainstation with our students and partners from RF, DSB, NEXT. Previously I have been working with other large scale installations in public space and co-creative projects.

My primary teaching and research area is preventive and sustainable conservation of artistic, cultural and natural history collections. I have specialized in indoor climate and energy problems in museum buildings, and my interests include environments’ influence on the longevity of heritage materials with a special focus on air pollution.

Nadja Gaudillière-Jami is assistant professor at the Centre for IT and Architecture, where she co-directs the Computation in Architecture master’s programme. She is a qualified architect and holds a PhD in Architecture from Gustave Eiffel University. A specialist of the digital in architecture, her research focuses on the environmental impacts of AEC digitization.

My research aims to improve the long-term preservation of wooden cultural heritage. I investigate how wood deteriorates, how this affects the valuable information it contains about past environments and societies, and how conservation treatments interact with degraded wood. By studying heritage wood from waterlogged and Arctic environments, I help develop more sustainable preservation methods.

In her recent architectural history research, she has focused on the early modern experience of privacy from a spatial perspective, in such varied spaces as mines, alchemical labs and homes. Since 2019 she has been funded by the Centre of Excellence PRIVACY (KU), where she leads the research group Privacy in the Early Modern Home, which covers research on Greenlandic, Taiwanese and European cases.

Natalie Mossin focuses on how architectural practice, research and education in the built environment can contribute to the development of a more socially and environmentally sustainable society. She works with innovation and capacity building at both an operational and strategic level and is an experienced editor, juror, and curator.

I am an Industrial PhD student at the Royal Danish Academy and Ramboll. My research explores ecological-regenerative approaches to long-term planning and transformation of urban waterfronts facing climate change, biodiversity loss, and ongoing urban development pressures. My work bridges landscape, water, architecture, and planning to develop new, hybrid modes of future waterfront practice.

My research explores housing as a field of study, with a particular focus on the spatial design of our homes. Through architectural ethnography, my work examines what has shaped the domestic interior, and how the form of our homes affects how we live? I investigate how novel forms of housing can better serve our needs, while reducing their ecological impact, through design-based research methods.

With a background in management and organization studies, my research sits at the intersection of design, innovation, and organizational change. Drawing on ethnographic, participatory, and intervention-based approaches, I examine how collaborative design practices shape learning and transformation, with a growing interest in more socially meaningful and democratic forms of organizing.

I am an architect and full professor at the Royal Danish Academy, where I head the Centre for Sustainable Building Culture and the master’s degree programme Building Culture – Sustainability, Strategy and Transformation. Taking a design-based approach, my research investigates sustainable building culture as seen through the lens of New Phenomenology.

I research how more-than-human perspectives can be integrated into municipal planning practice. Through a case study of Aalborg Municipality, I explore how strategies for urban nature and biodiversity are translated into practice and urban space. My aim is to contribute knowledge for planners, municipalities and researchers seeking to integrate more-than-human perspectives in urban planning.

I research how AI and data-driven methods can make urban design more regenerative. As an Industrial PhD Fellow at KADK and AI Specialist at Henning Larsen, I bridge academic research with architectural practice, focusing on responsible AI adoption, computational site analysis, and the gap between sustainability ambitions and implementation in the built environment.

It is positioned at the cross-over of architecture, structural/material efficiency and building technology focusing on wood. Paul is an architect and researcher exploring how advanced digital design and fabrication technologies can open up new ways to think about circularity and sustainability within architecture and the built environment. He is Associate Professor at CITA and leads the international Master Program Computation in Architecture.

I am head of the Master's programme Art and Architecture. I have written extensively about artistic method and the role of the art academy in society. I organize the Works + Words biennale in artistic research with the aim of developing international connections. My recent research concerns the role of architectural typology today.

I am Professor of the History of Architecture at the Royal Danish Academy and a Core Scholar at the DNRF Centre for Privacy Studies at the University of Copenhagen. Combining dissertations in architecture from The Royal Danish Academy and in art history from Aarhus University, I am interested in the interface between architectural design and politics, particularly in the 18th- and 19th-centuries.

My research focuses on the applied use of weaving and fermentation in the development of innovative architectural structures and material systems.

With weaving and fermentation being practices embedded in cultures across the world, the knowledge produced through this research has broad potential for 'scaling out' through social diffusion and 'scaling deep' through uptake and adoption.

Visualisation is my method and my object of study. Otto Neurath believed words divide, pictures unite I believe that's only true when the pictures are well designed. My research and practice, from Isotype history to pharmaceutical pictograms to medical infographics, is dedicated to that design: making complex information clear enough to build a better, more legible world.

I am an artistic researcher and educator exploring architecture as a material and representational practice. Working with techniques of representation, DIY attitudes and reused materials, I examine how buildings emerge between drawing and matter under conditions of environmental urgency.

I am a materials engineer working with the design and development of structure-property-function relationships in wood and mycellium-derived structural materials. Using complimentary spectroscopy and microscopy techniques, I connect the performance of these materials to their hierarchical structure.

My research is situated within design methodology and focuses on how people, groups and organisations can develop their capacity for sustainable transformation. I investigate how awareness of different ways of knowing can contribute to regenerative design practices by reconnecting people with their inner nature, with each other and with the wider living systems of which they are part.

My research sits at the intersection of anthropology and participatory design, focusing on everyday organisational practices as a critical site for exploring and enabling strategic change. I am interested in inventive research methodologies that can surface and shape new organisational possibilities and investigate pertinent questions around the integration and use of healthcare technologies.

Sofie Beier is Denmark's first scientific professor who trained as a designer. She combines a designer's instincts with psychology, AI, and eye-tracking technology. Rather than simply accepting old typographic rules as truth, she tests them, using the same validated lab methods as the natural sciences, to find out what actually makes text easier to read, for as many people as possible.

Trained in both film and landscape architecture, Sofie’s research explores tools for characterising cultural heritage and approaches to site registration and mediation within the broader framework of early-stage architectural development. Her work advocates for stronger preservation strategies while defining a transformative scope for intervention that encourage continued use.

My research explores ornament and ornamental practice in the digital age, predominantly through clay 3D printing and informed by the history of architectural ceramics. Alongside this, I investigate architectural models and model culture, with a particular interest in how material practices and the process of making can shape architectural thinking.

As a restoration architect, my research focuses on:
• development of surveying methods, e.g. through scanning “Børsen”
• reintroduction of building archaeology as a tool for restoration architects
• environmental impact of buildings assessed through LCA, focusing on climate impact and the ratio between new and existing buildings

I am an architect and researcher affiliated with CINARK, currently doing an industrial postdoc in collaboration with Enemærke & Petersen. My area of research spans architectural tectonics, care ethics, absolute sustainability, ecological thinking, housing and everyday building practices. I believe that architecture's transformative potential lies in the intersection of form and practice.

I am a paintings conservator with a museum background who does research on structural degradation of canvas paintings, with a special focus on paintings previously impregnated with melted wax-resin blends and the exhibition of such art works in historic buildings where the ambient climate and display conditions are difficult to control.

Trine Skødt is a PhD candidate affiliated with KLOTHING – Center for Apparel, Textiles and Ecology Research, bridging practice-based design research and textile history. She is currently researching historical repair practices in Denmark to explore how past infrastructures and skills can inform sustainable, circular textile futures by strengthening repair culture and textile literacy.

How does architecture influence our everyday lives? That question has always been central to Ulrik Stylsvig Madsens work. In his role as Associate Professor, his research and teaching have a focus on architectural quality, sustainable housing and sufficiency as a key factor in achieving a balance in our use of the Earth’s resources while accommodating the diverse needs of all living creatures.

As a landscape architect and researcher, I am driven by a simple but important question: How can nature become a health resource for all? Working across Landscape Architecture, Health Design, Environmental Psychology and Universal Design, I explore how evidence-based nature-based solutions can promote health. My research is human- and nature-centered and grounded in a salutogenic perspective.

Victor Boye Julebæk is an architect, researcher and associate professor at the Royal Danish Academy, where he heads the Master’s programme in Cultural Heritage, Transformation and Conservation. Working across theory and practice, his research investigates the materials, ecologies and practices of building cultures.

My research explores how the situated use of technologies and materials can shape new possibilities for architectural design. This is primarily investigated through the creative use of wood in construction where I peruse a variety of structural typologies from uncommon material sources.

Bridging design and health geography, I use qualitative and mixed methods to investigate how built environments influence mental wellbeing and healthy ageing. With a particular focus on public and community spaces, I conduct research across Japan, China and Denmark to generate insights grounded in everyday micro-practices that inform planning and design for health across the life course.

Educated as architect, Yuliya has a strong interest in textile material systems. For the past decade she has been researching the CNC-knitting as novel building material for tensile membranes with the deeper focus on differentiated properties of knit, aspects of CNC-knit production, simulation and prediction of knit behavior, as well as broader application of knit in architecture.
