In a world where over 216 million individuals struggle with moderate to severe vision impairment, aiding this reader group is potentially life changing. Now, imagine a text that not only acknowledges your presence but also adapts to your unique reading style, making your reading experience seamless and supportive.

Throughout history, reading has experienced minimal evolution since the advent of printing. However, the dawn of advanced technologies offers a new horizon. By deciphering individual reading patterns and tailoring content accordingly, we can enhance accessibility, comprehension, and engagement.

The ‘Reading the Reader’ project is an interdisciplinary venture that merges design, engineering, psychology, and innovation. Our mission is to craft robust machine learning methods that can dissect intricate, real-time biological data streams – including eye movements, pupil dilation, posture, and more. By harnessing these insights, we will pioneer individualized typographic adjustments that supports the evolving needs of the visually impaired community.

Our methodologies, capable of detecting struggling, distracted, and stressed readers, have the potential to reshape digital reading applications. Imagine subtle yet indispensable graphic features, seamlessly activated when needed.

Collaboratively spearheaded by DTU in partnership with Centre for Visibility Design at The Royal Danish Academy, this project synergizes art, science, and technology to develop novel reading platforms adjusted for individual needs.
