Denne forelæsning - Capturing Reality: The Emerging World of 3D Gaussian Splatting - med Olli Huttunen, 3D-specialist og grundlægger af ToppiNappi, er en del af forelæsningsrækken 'International Lecture Series', hvor Det Kongelige Akademi - Arkitektur inviterer store internationale navne indenfor til en eftermiddag med fokus på væsentlige internationale temaer i arkitekturen.
Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) is rapidly changing the way we capture, reconstruct, and visualize the real world in 3D. By transforming photographs into highly realistic and immersive 3D environments, this emerging technology opens up new possibilities for spatial documentation, visualization, and communication.
This presentation introduces the fundamental principles of Gaussian Splatting and explores its relationship with traditional photogrammetry, laser scanning, and point cloud technologies.
Through practical examples and real-world applications, we will look at how Gaussian Splatting can be used in surveying, architecture, construction, and cultural heritage. The presentation also discusses the current capabilities, limitations, and future potential of this rapidly evolving technology.
About the Speaker – Olli Huttunen
Olli Huttunen is a Finnish 3D specialist, visual media producer, and technology enthusiast based in Tampere, Finland. He is the founder of ToppiNappi, a creative studio specializing in digital imaging, 3D visualization, photogrammetry, and emerging spatial technologies.
With a background spanning audiovisual production, drone imaging, software development, and 3D reconstruction, Olli has developed a particular expertise in 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS). His work combines hands-on experimentation, technical development, and knowledge sharing, exploring new ways of capturing and representing the physical world through immersive digital environments.
