To Build With Nothing - On Planetary Boundaries and Strategies of Avoidance

How can avoidance as an architectural strategy enable solutions that operates within the planet’s safe space? 
This is the idea we explore in this session based on the notion that the most sustainable material is the one that we avoid using. As an industry, the target is not to build in a more sustainable way, but simply to build with less.

The session will present a global variety of case studies where principles of subtracting rather than adding significantly has reduced the planetary footprint. And will present a simple tool, the Construction Material Pyramid, that enable avoidance strategies in the early design phase.-
