The corona pandemic became, a catalyst for remote work. In the first quarter of 2022, approximately 14% of the Danish workforce frequently optioned to exchange the office with working at home, while 21% occasionally used a remote workspace. 35% of the Danish workforce adds up to approximately 1,073,000 people, optioning to work at home. The proportion of people using remote work has increased significantly compared to 2019. Many companies, recognizing the possibility of increased flexibility, implemented remote work even after the restriction during the Covid-19 pandemic ended (Danmarks Statistik, 2022).

Population growth, both nationally and globally, is on the rise, and in the coming years, it will leave its mark on our metropolises. One solution to the problem may be better organization and optimization of individuals' living conditions. The issue of limited space requires forward-looking solutions tailored to smaller homes. The project aligns with the growing popularity of remote work (Danmarks Statistik, 2022).

"Furniture solution that supports the framework for the work situation in small homes"

The project deals with work in the domestic context and how furniture can support the work situation in small homes. It starts with the need for flexible furniture solutions for homes with limited space. The aim is to develop furniture that rethinks our relationship to work in the domestic context.

In the capital area, the average living space per person is approximately 40 square meters, making it the lowest in the country (Beas-Jørgensen, 2019). The increasing interest in remote work as a flexible and time-optimizing solution in a busy work life raises questions about a healthy environment for remote work. The project aims to create a flexible piece of furniture for remote work that can accommodate a small area. The design proposal for this issue is a wall-mounted height-adjustable cabinet furniture with an integrated work desk.
