This project explores how wood and elastomer can be combined to create simplified motion mechanisms, addressing the repairability and recyclability challenges of conventional office chair mechanisms. The design proposes a task chair for the home office, using intuitive and replaceable joints that are easy to understand, repair, and recycle. These joints enable a responsive system for both forward-tilting seat and back, adapting to changing work postures.

Tilt Task Chair -  A task chair that supports users in adapting to different tasks and seamlessly shifting between working modes in the home office. Interchangeable elastomer joints allow users to customize the chair’s flexibility and color according to their preferences and needs.

Task

Adapting and Switching Between Tasks - For using the computer, you can use the normal working posture. When you need to focus and move closer to the desk, you can simply lean forward, and the seat tilts with your body. So you can easily adjust the posture and find a comfortable position for different tasks.

Replaceable Joint - The elastomer's flexibility and precise tolerances allow components to be easily replaced, while its replaceability enables users to customize the chair’s flexibility and color according to their preferences and needs. Both parts are mono-material, supporting repairability and recyclability

Replacable Movable Joint

Flat Pack Potential - For further potential in flat packing, because the seat and backrest are separated by the movable joint, the chair could be shipped in a smaller package and be easier to put together. It could also be easier to offer different seat heights by changing the leg structure.
