Trace the Corridor

The main issue of this district is that it used to be a lively residential area, but has now become a commercial street. Most of the rooms are empty, and the place has lost its vitality. The buildings seem like exhibits displayed in a shop window, and the current aesthetic culture surrounding old buildings is worrying.

Through this project, I want to explore how corridors can become more interesting, and how to create an engaging relationship between the corridor and the interior spaces. In addition, I hope that my design concept can help reshape a healthier aesthetic understanding within the district.

Why are corridors usually considered boring? Because people’s everyday activities are generally concentrated indoors, and they rarely spend time in corridors. In most buildings, such as apartments and office buildings, people only use corridors to reach a specific room, for example their own apartment or office area. This makes the experience of using the corridor feel monotonous.

What I mean by creating a new relationship between the corridor and the interior is to increase the public character of the building. I imagine that people can freely enter each room, and that each room has a different size and remains partly unknown. In this process, the corridor becomes a guiding promenade that leads people to explore the interior spaces.

Therefore, the function of my building is an art workshop, where artists can work and live. People can participate and experience the process of artistic creation, while also freely deciding how the spaces are used.

You may wonder why I am researching corridors, but most of my design work focuses on the interior. This is because I firmly believe that making the corridor more interesting can be achieved by influencing the interior, and through the interior, influencing the corridor space.
