Moonwillow Peak: Designing a Bioluminecent Fairy world for World of Warcraft
This project explores a moth-inspired fairy race for World of Warcraft, set in Moonwillow Peak in Shadowmoon Valley. The fairies live among other living beings and plants in a glowing ecosystem. The design targets casual players and collectors, focusing on cozy visuals, exploration, and gathering rather than combat.
This project showcases the development of a new fairy race created for the world of World of Warcraft as part of my master's project in Visual Game and Media Design. Through concept art, sketches, character designs, environments, props, and worldbuilding, the project explores how a new culture can be designed to fit within Warcraft’s established visual style and lore. The fairies are inspired by moths, plants, and bioluminescent ecosystems. They live among the giant Moonwillow trees of Shadowmoon Valley, where their villages hang from branches and vines high above the forest floor. Their society is built around harmony, gathering, craftsmanship, and coexistence with the plants and creatures that share their ecosystem. Throughout these pages, you will see the creative process behind the project, from early sketches and design explorations to final character concepts, environments, armor sets, and worldbuilding. The project investigates how concept art and worldbuilding can be used to create a believable fantasy culture that feels both original and at home within the Warcraft universe.
The concept art for these fairies were all combined in an Art book, that is inspired by the art books from World of Warcraft
