This projects creates an alternative strategy plan for the shrinking city of Gedser. The strategy does not aim to reverse depopulation but accepts the conditions of it. Whilst people are moving away, the strategy constructs a framework whereas the surrounding nature moves in. Thereby re-negotiating the balance between built-up areas and naturescapes creating a nuanced space for multiple species.
Strategy Plan - Gedser 1:5000: The plan consist of a clear green belt of nature scapes, with meadows in the lower points and forest on the highest. The belt softens the edge towards the ocean and gives space for the coast to move naturally. The old lakes has reappeared creating good habitats for the migrating birds.
Inside the new green belt a pathway connects the whole area. The smaller connections going from the periphery of the belt out towards the ocean, and once again enabling a clear connection between land and ocean.
Instead of tearing down and creating larger gabs between buildings with empty unused spaced, then re-think the structure creating infills of vibrance allowing for nature to occupy where people don’t want to live.
