The construction industry generates significant amounts of timber waste despite the material retaining structural value and technical potential. This project investigates how offcuts from structural timber can be reintroduced into new building systems through a combination of historical timber joinery, material experimentation and contemporary timber construction.

By studying traditional carpentry techniques alongside modern engineered wood products such as Cross Laminated Timber (CLT), the project explores how discarded material can be transformed from waste into a constructive resource. Through physical model making, prototyping and spatial investigations, the work examines how material understanding can inform new architectural and structural possibilities.

The project argues that future construction should not only focus on developing new materials, but also on reconsidering how existing resources are utilised. By drawing on historical knowledge while engaging contemporary construction methods, it proposes a more resource conscious approach to timber architecture and circular building practices.

Bauherr

Alongside my studies, I worked at Bauherr as a client consultant, assisting building owners in planning and construction projects. The position strengthened my understanding of project management, construction processes, and the collaboration between clients, consultants, and contractors.

Carpenter

Before pursuing my architectural studies, I worked as a carpenter for four years. This experience provided a strong understanding of materials, craftsmanship, and construction processes, while fostering an appreciation for the relationship between design intentions and their physical realization.
