Healthy Pet Toys for Animals, People, and the Planet - a business and design project
Pet toys have become an industry on its own, and one positive aspect is that spending time with pets is often beneficial to human health and well-being. At the same time, these toys can harm our pets, our home, and our planet because they contain harmful chemicals and are quickly thrown away.
To address these challenges, I developed a business concept focused on designing and curating healthy pet toys based on the latest research. The concept is a layered product-service system in which i developed two prototypes: a Personality-to-Toy Matching Platform and a Cat Toy Station.
The matching platform was developed through scientific research and consultation with researchers at the Center for Companion Animal Welfare at the University of Copenhagen. The Cat Toy Station was developed in collaboration with a metal specialist at Statens Værksteder for Kunst. Both prototypes were developed using the iterative Lean Startup methodology and were tested with users to gather feedback and inform further development.
In an industry where pet-care services are often fragmented, the goal is to improve animal welfare, environmental sustainability, and human well-being through a more systemic and integrated approach.
