Centre for Interior Studies - Closing Reception

We invite collaborators, partners and colleagues to an informal reception to celebrate the Centre for Interior Studies and its inspiring research and collaborations. 

Centre for Interior Studies was launched on 15 April 2021 and will conclude on 30 April 2026.

Through the past five years, the Centre has attracted national and international networks, published a significant body of work, organised conferences, research seminars, exhibitions, lectures, and much more. It has supported teaching on several programmes, most notably the international Spatial Design master's programme. Furthermore, it has fostered international and interdisciplinary collaborations between architecture and design, anthropology, social history, art history, and many other disciplines.  

Domestic imaginaries and historic relations, comfort, royalty, drawings, colonialism, models, betrayal, nature in architecture, displays, vanishing points, welfare, provinces, ecologies, everyday life, clutter, haunting and blank surfaces. Home and beyond; the Centre for Interior Studies brought new insights into the enigmatic topic of the interior, showing that it cannot be reduced to design aesthetics or cultural codes, nor is it simply a matter of politics, environmental issues, or societal conditions. The intersection of art, culture, materiality, space, and society gave new perspectives on museums as well as homes, institutions and workplaces by combining aspects that are usually understood as separated. But now it’s time to wrap up.

After five great years in the centre, we look forward to continuing our work with colleges from the centre as well as in new networks.
