SlowWood: Timber Reuse as Driver of Circular Construction

Seminar
Sted: CAFX, Halmtorvet 27, kl. 13.00-17.00
Onsite and Online (zoom link after registration)

Seminar exploring design and manufacturing with reclaimed timber in the emerging circular ecosystem of the built environment. It investigates how reusing timber demands care, patience, and craftsmanship.

Recovering timber is meticulous work — each piece must be individually assessed and handled, as it might suffer from decay, contamination, or moisture. Yet this slowness also opens opportunities: like traditional craftsmanship, reuse generates design and manufacturing processes that embrace the individuality of salvaged wood.

The seminar examines how sourcing and processing reclaimed timber can scale from highly local and craft-based contexts to municipal and industrial systems—and what the consequences of such scaling might be.

Two sessions bring together Danish and international actors from research and industry to share cases of reclaimed timber design and manufacturing, and to discuss the emerging circular ecosystem around its reuse:
