Investigating how mycelium can be incorporated into recognisable furniture design typologies while challenging and questioning the use of conventional foam by replacing it with a biomaterial. The chair is designed for NEXT’s new location in Glostrup and is intended for use in their meeting rooms. Built by cabinetmaker students, celebrating the historic collaboration between craft and design.

''Creating comfort with biodegradable materials''

Mycelium is the root structure of fungi and has the ability to create solids shapes and give form to objects. It is biodegradable and can be a more sustainable replacement for foam or other volume giving materials.

Creating comfort with biodegradable materials, is an important step towards more sustainable furniture design.

The chair is inspired by the ancient klismos chair that with its wide backrest gives the user the ability of moving freely around whilst sitting. The wide backrest and the voluminous seat serves as giving the chair character but also creates comfort.

Designer at Moebe

For 1,5 years I worked as an internal designer at the danish furniture brand Moebe. I was responsible in almost all aspects of a product's development cycle. From the first sketches, to building models and prototypes. To drawing it up in CAD and eventually sending drawings to producers. Receiving the prototypes and assessing, them before going to photoshoots in order launch them.
