Sustainable Building Culture?
How do we reduce the carbon footprint of the construction industry by using the buildings we already have?
At the exhibition '70 % Less CO2' you can explore the project 'Sustainable Building Culture?'.
Vast volumes of CO2 are embedded in our existing building stock. According to the Danish Building Research Institute, the CO2 embedded in an office building over an 80-year period accounts for 72% of its carbon footprint, while operations and heating account for only 28%. This enables us to sharply reduce our carbon footprint in the future by perceiving our architectural heritage as an already-existing resource and recycling its components wherever possible.
The project is based on how to store the materials in the building stock for as long as possible without using new materials, and looks at how this can be done without compromising on the aesthetic qualities of the buildings.
It outlines a new future for the B&W halls by studying how these can be made sturdier, better insulated and future-proofed by minimising the use of newly manufactured materials.
It does so through tangible, detailed studies of materials and energy factors.
