Wood Compositions - Thermal

The Wood Compositions project (part of Project Matters) investigates how we can understand and create thermal design with highly inhomogeneous wood structures considered wastewood today. The research focuses on a range of wood species from Danish forests, which also can be found across Europe, Asia and Americas.
The studies include three aspects of analysing wood by thermal imaging, training computer models through machine learning to create new photography based analysis of unique wood parts and develop new computational design models for novel thermal compositions in architecture.
The research is structured as basic research of materials properties, combined with applied research of developing knowledge and methods for highly expressive and performance tailored material element arrays that influence the thermal environment close to the human.
